Follow the link for the latest report from the current Tannery of the Year programme. For this issue, we returned to China and visited Xingye Leather Technology, a tannery with its roots in Fujian province but which now operates across the country. Its next target is to make an impact on the international stage.
As with all of our Tannery of the Year reports, we also offer readers a wider view of the leather industry in the surrounding country. In the last issue of the magazine, we focused on China as a producer of leather and leather products. The second part of the commentary explores China as a consumer of leather and leathergoods.
The magazine’s technical section includes an article exploring one of the big challenges facing the leather industry, what to do with products at the end of life. We also examine how hide curing processes can affect crops and hear from Chinese leather chemicals manufacturer Biosk, which is rolling out a system that offers tanners closed-loop liming and chrome-tanning solutions.
In our Beast to Beauty feature, we highlight the work of a UK-based company which is finding a use for a range of ‘waste’ materials, including leather offcuts.
