Adient and Boeing set up new aircraft seating joint-venture

Seating systems provider Adient, spun off from Johnson Controls in 2016, has formed a new company with aircraft manufacturer Boeing. The new joint company, Adient Aerospace, will design and build airplane seats.

Adient Aerospace seats will be available for installation on new planes and as retrofit configurations for aircraft produced by Boeing and other manufacturers. The two partners said they believe the new joint venture will “address the aviation industry’s need for more capacity in the seating category”.

Boeing’s senior vice-president for supply chain management, Kevin Schemm, said on announcing the development: “Seats have been a persistent challenge for our customers, the industry and Boeing, and we are taking action to help address constraints in the market.”

Adient Aerospace’s headquarters, technology centre and initial production plant will be located in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
