Elvis Presley’s leather chair fetches $17,500 at auction

The chair had a reserve price of $5,000 and attracted 16 bids before being sold for $17,500.
It was said to be a favourite of Mr Presley’s when he spent time in the Jungle Room prior to its renovation in the 1970s. The dark wood chair features vinyl upholstery and bears signs of its long-time use including a large cut in the leather on the upright area.
Also sold was a brown leather jacket that Mr Presley gave to one of his bodyguards in the 1970s. It was manufactured by Grais Leathers, a US-based leather coat and jacket manufacturer that was prominent in the 1940s and 1950s. It fetched a final price of $2,875.
A total of 271 lots featured in the auction, which took place at Graceland. Bidders from all over the world took part in person, by phone and online with the total value of sales exceeding $500,000.
