Bangladesh: finished leather exports fall in value by nearly 30%

Bangladesh’s exports of leather and leather products in the first six months of the current financial year (July-December 2017) brought in $620 million. This represents a fall of 1.2% compared to the same period a year earlier.

Leather footwear exports went up in value by 8.5%, reaching $307.5 million for the six-month period, while shipments of accessories also increased, by 2.8%, to $215 million.

However, the value of exports of finished leather fell by 27.8% to reach $87.5 million.

The government has set an export target of $1.23 billion for leather sector for the current financial year, which ends in June 2018.
