Longchamp’s Loire factory to transfer to new site

Luxury leathergoods brand Longchamp is in the process of moving its factory in the Pays de la Loire region in western France. Its production facility at Montournais will close in September and a new one, under construction since 2016, will open in Pouzauges, less than 10 kilometres away.

Longchamp’s production director, David Burgel, said in recent comments to local media that the company is investing €11 million in the project.

He said the change will provide Longchamp’s craftspeople in this part of France with more space and more light and bring their working environment closer to the standards that are in place at other Longchamp factories. He also said it will allow Longchamp to increase its workforce in the region, from 70 people at the moment to around 100 in 2019.

“We have our own skills training centre at Montournais,” Mr Burgel explained, “and we are going to transfer it to Pouzauges and make it even bigger. Young and not-so-young people are coming forward seeking to learn the artisan skills we use here. They learn how to work with leather in all its forms.”
