Spain: high-end footwear group faces liquidation

01/12/2017
Reports from Spain suggest that the parent company of high-end footwear brand Rebeca Sanver is on the point of being liquidated. The company, Florencia Marco entered administration in October but appears to have been unable to reach agreement with its creditors and will go into liquidation.

Commentators have pointed not only to a fall in sales for Rebeca Sanver and the Elda-based company’s other brands, To Be and Pimientos, but also to a decision to set up eight own-brand stores in recent years rather than continue to rely on supplying its collections to multibrand shoe retailers.

It is also the case that Florencia Maro chief executive, José Juan Sanchís, spent two years between 2013 and 2015 as president of national footwear industry association FICE. He stepped into the role after the death of long-term FICE president Rafael Calvo. When he left the role in 2015, Mr Sanchís made it clear that he needed to concentrate on his own business.
