VDA hails automotive growth, though US figures disappoint
German automobile industry association VDA has reported that new passenger car registrations rose in most main markets in the first ten months of 2017.

New registrations reached more than 19 million in China, up by 3%, while the figure for Europe was 13.2 million, an increase of 3.8% year on year.

There were even more impressive increases in Japan (up by 7.2% to 3.7 million), India (up by 8.7% to 2.7 million, Russia (up by 11.3% to almost 1.3 million) and Brazil (up by 9.7% to almost 1.8 million).

The exception is the US. The market there recorded new registrations of more than 14 million, but this represents a fall of 1.8% year on year.

VDA president, Matthias Wissmann, said at a press conference on November 21 that the industry is growing, largely thanks to demand from consumers in China and India. He predicted that production in 2018 will be stable.
