Turkish leathergoods exporters’ representative complains of poor treatment

The president of a Turkish leathergoods exporters’ business association, Mustafa Senocak, has complained about the treatment of exhibitors from his country at recent international leather events.

In recent comments, Mr Senocak acknowledged that, with a downturn in business, Turkish participation at international events such as APLF in Hong Kong, the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai and Lineapelle in Milan is weaker than it used to be.

But he went on to say this did not justify what he perceived as unfair treatment of Turkish exhibitors at the most recent edition of Lineapelle at the start of October. Mr Senocak said the organisers had allocated poor stand locations to Turkish exhibitors and he concluded that “a worldwide downturn in demand for leather” is making Italian manufacturers adopt a “more aggressive” position in relation to their competitors.

For the record, leatherbiz spoke to Turkish exhibitors at the October edition of Lineapelle who were very happy with their location at the fair and with the high numbers of visitors they received at their stands.
