Audi prepares all its plants for electric vehicle production
30/10/2017
Between January and September 2017, Audi delivered just under 1.4 million vehicles to customers around the world, slipping by 1.9% compared to the same period last year.
In terms of revenues, the automotive company brought in €44.2 billion from vehicle deliveries in the first nine months of 2017, from which it made €3.9 billion in operating profit, increases of 0.5% and 0.6% respectively.
Commenting on the 2017 figures, Audi chief executive, Rupert Stadler, said they represent a “robust performance, achieved amid a difficult environment”. But he pointed out that innovation will underpin Audi’s response to this.
Mr Stadler said: “We are launching the biggest model initiative in our history and at the same time we are preparing every area of the company for the age of electric propulsion and autonomous driving. And, with a far-reaching programme of measures, we are streamlining costs and tapping new revenue potential. This is underpinning our profitability targets also with regard to future mobility.”
The launch of the Audi e-tron, the brand’s first all-electric volume model, will take place in 2018. The automotive brand has said it will offer customers more than 20 different electrified models by 2025, around half of which will have all-electric drives. It is preparing all plants for the production of electric cars.
