ISA TanTec-Bader China operation wins environmental plaudits

A joint-venture operation in China between two tanning groups, ISA TanTec and Bader, Heshan Bestway Leather Product Limited, is in the top 5% of performers in the region around the city of Jiangmen, in Guangdong province, for environmental integrity.

That was the assessment of the Jiangmen Environmental Protection Bureau after its most recent environmental evaluation of manufacturers in the area.

After assessing more than 200 companies for all aspects of environmental management, including pollution control and conservation, the authorities in Jiangmen gave top marks to only seven, one of which was Heshan Bestway Leather Product. More than 40 companies received a formal warning about their environmental performance and five were closed down.

Heshan Bestway Leather Product was established as a joint crust manufacturing venture between Bader and ISA TanTec. In 2016, the operation had a production capacity of 6 million square-feet of crust per month. Around one-third of that crust stayed in Heshan for ISA TanTec to process into finished leather, while two-thirds went to Bader’s automotive leather finishing plant in Dalian in north-east China.
