Leathergoods collection to boost Hello Kitty’s grown-up appeal

Japanese consumer products group Sanrio has announced plans to launch a new range of goods that it hopes will take its Hello Kitty brand in a more grown-up direction.

Following a decline in the popularity of the brand in recent years, Sanrio is launching a 27-piece range, including handbags and wallets, aimed at adult consumers.

Leather features prominently in the new collection, including exotic options such as ostrich. A leather tote bag in the collection will be priced at $700.

Sanrio is setting up pop-up stores dedicated to the new grown-up collection, the first in a Keio department store in Tokyo. Its aim is to have three of these outlets in place before the end of 2018.
