Finished leather exports let sector down in Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s leather industry achieved export revenues of $324.6 million in the first three months of the current financial year, July-September. This represents an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period last year.

However, exports of finished leather declined by 30%, reaching $46.4 million compared to $ 67 million a year ago.

Exports of finished leathergoods rose by 19.3% to $111.6 million and leather footwear shipments rose by almost 5% to $166.9 million.

The government has set an export target of $1.23 billion for the leather sector for this financial year, July 2017 to June 2018.
