Turkey confirms FMD outbreak

The authorities in Turkey have confirmed an occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Zonguldak province in the Black Sea region of the country.

A programme the ministry of agriculture has put in place to contain the outbreak means no cattle will be allowed to leave the affected area and more than 200,000 animals will be vaccinated. The ministry said this incident brings to an end a period of two years of Turkey being FMD-free.
