Leather and shoe exports down in India, apparel and accessories up

India’s Council for Leather exports (CLE) has said leather-sector exports declined in value by 1.3% in the first three months of the current financial year (April-June 2017). Exporters representing the various segments of the industry brought in just over $1.4 billion over the three-month period.

Finished leather exports dropped in value by 5% compared to the same months a year ago, falling to $238.1 million. Shipments of leather shoes fell even further, by 8.7% to reach $495.7 million in value.

There was growth in leather garments (by 4% to $139 million) and in leathergoods (by 5% to $331.4 million).
