UNIDO video aims to prevent harm from hydrogen sulfide
22/08/2017
Lasting just under four minutes, the video is available to view on UNIDO’s Leather Panel website, which can be found at this link. It aims to raise awareness among workers in the leather industry of the places where the risk of finding H2S is particularly acute: effluent treatment plant drainage areas and pits, drums, paddles or pits used for pickling and liming and chemical stores, for example.
Industrial development officer, Ivan Kral, said on launching the video that H2S can cause fatalities instantly, but that the correct use of safety clothing, equipment and techniques can prevent harm.
He said the timing of the launch is poignant because, already this year, there have been incidents involving H2S at leather manufacturing plants in China, India, Bangladesh and Kenya.
