Indian delegation moves on to Peru

India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has continued its trade mission to South America by moving on from Chile to Peru. Around 20 companies from the Indian leather sector have travelled across the Pacific to take part in the tour.

Arriving in Chile, CLE president, Mukhtarul Amin, said companies in India had exported to Chile leather and finished products made from leather with a value of $7.9 million last year, giving India a 2% share of the Peruvian leather imports market.

Exports from India to the entire South American market had a value of just over $95 million in financial year 2016-2017 (April-March). Ten years earlier, the figure was just over $27 million. There has been growth, then, but Mr Amin made it clear that his member companies are keen to build stronger ties with customers in this part of the world.
