Leather chemicals manufacturer BASF will use the 2017 All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) as a platform for introducing a series of solutions that it says will help tanneries lower their carbon footprint, as well as reduce water and energy usage.

Highlights will include a new line of wet-end solutions for retanning and waterproofing. Leather made with the new products will be showcased tor the first time at the event, which takes place in Shanghai from August 30 to September 1.

Also on show will be what BASF has called a complete automotive system, “from beauty coat to topcoat with zero add-on of aromatic solvents”, designed specifically to meet new regulations in China.

“International buyers require their suppliers to be fully compliant with environmental, occupational health and safety, and social standards,” said Matthias Halusa, BASF’s vice-president for leather chemicals in the build-up to the event. “Our solutions help tanners conform to international leather sustainability standards and regulatory requirements as well as to further develop export markets by keeping in line with the latest industry developments.”
