Alcanena leather museum project back on the agenda

24/07/2017
The local authorities in Alcanena have begun to look once again at the idea of setting up a national leather museum for Portugal in the town.

In fact, a space for a leather museum has been in place since 2008, but attempts to set up exhibits and open the facility to the public have consistently been postponed owing to a lack of funding.

The subject came up for discussion again when the mayor of Alcanena, Fernanda Asseiceira, visited the museum building with Rosalia Vargas, president of national agency for science and the project is back on the local authority’s agenda.

Tanning industry association APIC and the leather industry’s research and testing body in Portugal, CTIC, are working in partnership with the authorities in Alcanena to get the leather museum off the ground.
