Colombia’s leather and footwear industries lost between 8,000 and 10,000 jobs in the first half of this year, according to the president of industry association Acicam, Luis Gustavo Flórez.

He also said there was a sharp fall in the volume of leather processed by the country’s tanners in the first five months of the year; between January and May the volume of finished leather tanners produced was down by 16.7% compared to the same months in 2016.

There was an even sharper fall in leathergoods production, which Mr Flórez said was down by 26.4%.
