Casino Hide reports success of wastewater improvement project

One of Australia’s largest tanneries, Casino Hide Tanners, has said a project it embarked on last year to make its wastewater treatment plant more efficient is now paying dividends.

Part of the Northern Co-operative Meat Company (NCMC), Casino Hide Tanners achieved improvements in the performance of the wastewater treatment plant at its facility in Casino, New South Wales, by installing rotary drum screens and auger extractors from technology provider CST Wastewater Solutions.

These screens have apertures that are 50% finer than usual, making greater extraction of solid waste  and recovery possible. Speaking about the new system, Casino Hide Tanners operations manager,  Robert Doidge, commented: “It is absolutely critical that we get these solids out of the system before they enter our chrome recovery plant, where contaminants can reduce efficiency and lead to down-time. With the new installation, we have achieved this.” The new system has also eliminated manual labour because it automatically conveys solids to adjacent containers.
