New compliance programme says JBS will ‘always do the right thing’

A lawyer specialising in anti-corruption initiatives in Brazil, André Janszky, is to take a role in a new governance committee that under-fire packer and tanning group JBS has set up.

Mr Janszky, a former senior partner at two major international legal firms, is currently an independent consultant in corporate governance and anti-corruption and holds boardroom positions at a number of publicly held Brazilian companies.

JBS’s new global compliance officer, Dr Marcelo Proença, has wasted no time since his appointment on June 14 on coming up with a compliance programme for JBS, which is mired in a corruption scandal that threatens to bring down the Brazilian government.

Dr Proença has entitled the new programme ‘Always Do The Right Thing’. JBS has said it hopes implementing “the best global compliance programme in the industry” will help it “restore the trust” of its stakeholders.
