CIMA protests as imported leathergoods increase in Argentina

12/06/2017
Argentinean leathergoods manufacturers’ association CIMA has said the volume of imported leather products coming into the country in the first five months of 2017 showed an increase of more than 40% compared to the same period in 2016.

CIMA also pointed out in a recent statement that the number of leathergoods importers active in Argentina has risen from just over 400 in 2015 to almost 700 now.

The organisation’s president, Ariel Aguilar, said on announcing these figures that the leathergoods sector is one of the worst affected by Argentina’s current economic difficulties, with sales down by between 30% and 35% between January and May 2017 compared to the same period last year.
