Economic and political tensions between Turkey and Russia remain and is affecting Turkish leather companies’ ability to take part in trade events in their most important export market.

One recent example came to light following the 2017 edition of LeShow Moscow, an event specifically for leather-sector companies seeking to increase exports to Russia.

This year’s event, the twentieth in the history of LeShow Moscow, took place from May 29-31 and attracted around 60 exhibitors from Turkey. According to reports in media back home, however, exhibitors from Turkey were singled out for searches and interrogation at customs at Moscow airport and in some cases took up to 24 hours to get through.
