Veteran León tanner to receive award

Mr Hernández’s career began in 1959 when he learned the trade at the hands of a well known figure in the Mexican leather industry of the time, Antonio Lara. He went on to set up his own business and recalled recently that one of the first things he had to invest in were eight donkeys, which he used to move hides.
He said he was surprised and proud to have been nominated for the Silver Badge and urged younger leather manufacturers to be courageous. “It’s when times are difficult that you should invest most in new equipment,” he said, “because the new technology that will help you to leave the difficult times behind.”
