Brazilian footwear exports drop again in April

11/05/2017
Brazilian footwear companies exported 8.33 million pairs of shoes in April, a 1.1% drop compared to the same month of 2016, according to the latest data from Brazilian footwear association Abicalçados.
The value of these exports was 14.8% higher year-on-year at $79.26 million.

When compared to the figures from March of this year, there was a severe decline in exports both in volume (-22.8%) and value (-17.5%). Heitor Klein, president of Abicalçados, predicted that it would be difficult for Brazilian footwear companies to secure any increase in their exports during the rest of 2017.

The US was the principal destination for Brazilian shoe exports in April, taking in four million pairs for a value of $64.26 million. This represents falls of 13% in volume and 2.1% in value compared to April 2016.
