Leathergoods leaders to take part in Lisbon luxury summit
A number of leading lights in the luxury leathergoods sector will speak at the 2017 Business of Luxury Summit, which takes place in Lisbon from May 14-16.

Organiser, the Financial Times, said in the build-up to the event that its aims including looking at Portugal’s “renaissance as a centre of luxury manufacture” as well as discussing the broader themes of production within the industry today.

Portugal’s prime minister, António Costa (pictured), will give the opening address and José Manuel Barroso, who is now chairman of Goldman Sachs International but is a former president of the European Commission and former prime minister of Portugal, will also speak.

As part of the programme on May 15, Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of women’s collections at Louis Vuitton, will speak at the summit on the subject of pushing the frontiers of fashion. Loewe creative director, Jonathan Anderson, will address the importance of the work of artisans in a session entitled ‘Craft, Design and the Art of the Hand’, and the chief executive of Hermès, Axel Dumas, will give the keynote closing address.

Managing director of Kering, Jean-François Palus, will pick up the baton the following morning, giving the opening key address on May 16.
