Colombia gains access to Chilean beef market

Four production plants in Colombia have been giving the green light to start shipping their products to Chile, according to Colombia’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

The Agricultural and Livestock Service of Chile (SAG) gave its approval to the import of Colombian beef in April 2016. Following a process of certification and validation, including for health and sanitation, market access has now been granted.

The first companies to have been approved are: Frigocolanta, Manzanares, Cárnica Roja S.A.S. and Planta Ecológica de Beneficio Animal Río Frío S.A.

“Chile imports more than $800 million of meat from the world per year,” said María Claudia Lacouture, Colombia’s minister of commerce, industry, and tourism. “We have a new opportunity to take advantage of this market.”
