Dow leather chemicals to form part of new material science company
Chemical groups DuPont and Dow have announced that the merger they agreed to at the end of 2015 may take longer to complete than they first anticipated.

At first, the two companies said they were aiming to complete the merger in the first quarter of 2017. At the start of this year, they extended this to say it would be complete before July. Now they have said it may take until August 31 this year. They said satisfying the approval conditions of the European Union was taking longer than they had thought.

On announcing this new delay, Dow and DuPont confirmed their intention to separate the merged group into three independent and publicly traded companies and they said that the first of these will be a material science company.

Dow has now confirmed to leatherbiz that its range of leather chemicals will be part of the output of the new material science company.
