Fimec 2017 hailed as the best for years

The 2017 edition of the Fimec exhibition in Brazil closed on March 16 with the organisers saying that the amount of business exhibitors and visitors were able to carry out at the event “far exceeding the levels of recent years”.

“You could feel the optimism in the halls,” said Márcio Jung, president of organiser, Fenac. “This was definitely the best edition of Fimec that we’ve had in the last few years.”

President of Brazil’s national tanning industry association CICB, José Fernando Bello, said his member companies had been able to make the most of opportunities to meet face to face with suppliers and with customers, not least because of a series of organised visits from overseas buyers and special projects that formed part of Fimec, such as the Concept Factory.

This idea involves setting up, at the exhibition, production lines for men’s and women’s shoes. The Concept Factory has been a feature of Fimec for a number of years, but this year 25% more space was allocated to the project. Local footwear brands Usaflex and Pegada ran the two production lines and another 60 partner companies supplied machinery, components and materials (including leather).

From a footwear point of view, Abicalçados president, Heitor Klein, said at the end of the exhibition: “Our immediate impression is that this edition of Fimec has lived up to expectations. This fair is strong and it produces excellent results for our sector.”
