The leather industry in South Korea has undergone substantial contraction in recent years, according to Young Sung Kang, founder and president of tanning technology provider Nanopress.

In recent comments to leatherbiz, Mr Young said only around 20 large, full-service tanneries remain in the Asian country, whereas there used to be hundreds. He said there are also around 20 smaller operators across the country, plus about 60 facilities that operate as finishing plants to give a total of about 100 leather-manufacturing companies.
