Bergi prepares for buffing “revolution”

23/02/2017
Chief executive of tanning machinery manufacturer Bergi, Mauro Bergozza, has said the company is preparing a new buffing concept, involving new technology and recommended new practices. He said Bergi will be ready to give more information about the idea towards the end of this year and to make it commercially available at the start of 2018.

Speaking at Tanning Tech 2017 in Milan, Mr Bergozza told leatherbiz that the demands on the buffing line are “always high” because of the need in the market for nubuck, nappa and corrected-grain leathers is intense. “It’s not easy to help tanners make their leather better,” he said, “because the quality of raw material is going down. Usually, it’s a question of using heavy finishing or working on buffing. We prefer tanners to work on buffing, obviously, because it allows leather to keep its natural look.”

He said Bergi is already working with one tannery in Arzignano to test its new concept. “The customer involved in the test is very excited about this,” Mr  Bergozza said, “because if the result is positive, it will give tanners more yield. It will bring about a revolution in this phase of leather manufacturing.”
