Italian government offers Industry 4.0 tax incentive on tanning machinery

Machinery providers that qualify, through successfully connecting their technology to data and automation systems, can offer a government-backed financial incentive to customers.
At Tanning Tech 2017, one of the first companies to promote its participation in this initiative was Arzignano-based Wega. A member of the company’s engineering team, Giorgio Povoleri, explained to leatherbiz the way the initiative works. He said: “Tanners in Italy who invest in new machinery can usually reduce the amount of tax they have to pay to the government, deducting the value of the new technology from their taxable income. However, as part of the Industry 4.0 initiative, they are able to deduct 250% of the value of the new machines from their taxable income.”
He said Wega customers had expressed substantial early interest in the idea.
Trissino-based Evoloution Tech introduced a new rotary press machine, Evolux, at the event. Sales manager, Antonello Marchino, confirmed to leatherbiz, that the company has linked the machine to smartphones and to back-office software applications and it, too, will use the government incentive to convince tanners to invest in the new development.
Equitan founder and chief executive, Antonio Antoniazzi, said he also had technology ready to participate in the programme. “Lots of tanning machinery providers have the capability to link to this,” he said, “and they will do so.”
