January figure disappoints for Volkswagen in China
20/02/2017
In the course of the month, Volkswagen delivered 813,700 vehicles worldwide, a decline of 4% compared to January 2016. Of this total, the Chinese market’s share was 344,000. This figure represents a year-on-year fall of 14% for China.
Head of sales for the Volkswagen group, Fred Kappler, said factors that contributed to the disappointing result in China included the comparatively early date of the Chinese New Year holiday, a new tax set-up there for vehicles with small engines and some uncertainty over planning for the year among dealers for the group’s Audi brand.
He said that putting the China figures to one side gives Volkswagen growth of 4.9% for the month.
