Tannery team sets up ‘health camp’ for local children

At the end of last year, the corporate social responsibility team at Tata International’s tannery in Dewas, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, worked with local teachers and a team of doctors to organise a ‘health camp’ for school children in the nearby village of Amona.

More than 500 children took part and received health-checks and medicine for any ailments that the doctors identified. The children also received dental check-ups and had their height and weight measured. Girls received rubella vaccinations.

The Tata International team then organised quiz sessions, with questions on the health topics the children had learned about in the course of the day and prizes for those who achieved the best scores.

Chairman of the tannery’s corporate social responsibility committee, Dr CJ Katju, ended the event by urging all of the children to remember and heed the advice they had received in the course of the day so that they can grow up “strong and fit”.
