Minerva acquisition falls through

Brazilian packer and tanning group Minerva has called off the previously announced acquisition of rival group Frisa. Had it gone through, the deal would have made Minerva the second-largest meat company in South America, after JBS.

Minerva said in a statement on January 17 that the contract it had in place to make the acquisition had expired. Due diligence Minerva carried out flagged up the need for Frisa to submit a series of documents. Because Frisa has not sent the documents it said it was cancelling the contract.
