Audi to start making and selling electric cars in China this year

17/01/2017
Automotive group Audi is to expand its business activities in the Chinese market. With local partner FAW Group, the company has defined 21 “key strategy fields” that make up a new 10-year plan.

Audi will significantly expand its portfolio of locally produced cars and enter new segments, including electric vehicles. FAW and Audi have set up a new, dedicated company for mobility and digital services.

In the first five years of the plan, Audi and FAW have agreed to produce five additional e-tron models locally and introduce them to the Chinese market – including purely battery-powered cars with ranges of more than 500 kilometres. With the Audi A6 L e-tron as first locally produced plug-in hybrid and the imported Q7 e-tron, Audi will sell two electrified full-size models in China from this year on.
