Brazilian beef exports hit by currency issues and unrest in key markets
11/01/2017
Industry figures in Brazil said currency exchange fluctuations and unrest in important export markets, including Russia, Venezuela and Egypt, were among the main reasons for the sector’s lack of growth.
There were success stories too. Shipments to Hong Kong increased by 11% in volume and by 5% in value.
For China, the 2016 figures were volumes of more than 165,000 tonnes and revenues of more than $700 million.
Full-year figures for 2015 are not available because shipments of Brazilian beef to China only started again in June of that year. In the first five months of the new trading arrangement, Brazilian exporters shipped 80,000 tonnes of beef to China for revenues of $400 million.
