Leather plays a part in Dior sneaker collection
12/12/2016
The collection is designed by Dior’s menswear artistic director, Kris Van Assche. The Belgian designer has pedigree in the footwear industry, having managed his eponymous line until 2015, when he shut it down to focus on his role at Dior.
The shoes in the collection are made in Naples, Italy, with each pair taking four days to create. There are seven different styles.
The high-top BO6 sneaker is made of leather embossed with the Prince of Wales motif, a pattern used by Christian Dior in his first footwear collection. The upper is made with 34 pieces of leather. After assembly, a craftsman adds splashes of red, blue, black and white paint using a small paintbrush. They also apply a transparent protective paint.
