UNIDO to present zero liquid discharge concept at IULTCS Congress

29/11/2016
UNIDO (the United Nations Industrial Development Organization) will give a detailed presentation at the XXXIV IULTCS Congress on the zero liquid discharge (ZLD) strategy in place at a number of tanning clusters around the world. The congress takes place in Chennai from February 5-8, 2017.

Ivan Král, UNIDO’s industrial development officer for the leather industry, has explained that the ZLD presentation will analyse the performance of the idea at the common effluent treatment plant at the Vellore tanning cluster in Tamil Nadu. ZLD has been in place there for several years now.

Mr Král said he felt sure a presentation from UNIDO on this subject at the congress would provide “valuable guidance” for other tanneries and clusters.

Also at the Chennai event, the organisation will present the web portal it set up in 2014 to deliver training and information to tanners and other leather-sector workers around the world.
