Volkswagen to cut thousands of jobs

18/11/2016
Automotive group Volkswagen has announced that it will shed 23,000 jobs in “conventional areas” in Germany between now and 2020 as it seeks to “return to a path of profitable growth”. The company agreed to pay a settlement of $14.7 billion in a US court on October 25 to compensate car buyers in the US whom it misled over the emissions performance of its cars.

It announced the job losses on November 18. It insisted there will be no compulsory redundancies, and said it will create 9,000 new jobs elsewhere in the company over the same timeframe.
