The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is preparing to celebrate its fiftieth birthday. This specialised agency of the United Nations, which works to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition, launched on November 17, 1966.

In recent years, UNIDO has engaged in leather-related projects in Tanzania, Pakistan, India, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Bangladesh and other countries.

As the Vienna-based organisation’s fiftieth anniversary approached, director general, LI Yong, said it remains fully committed to using its “vast experience and technical expertise” to help countries grow their industrial potential “in order to end poverty”.
