Government to impose $5 billion target on Bangladesh leather sector

Bangladesh’s leather sector registered export revenues of just under $320 million in the first three months of the current financial year, July-September 2016. This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 16.7%.

Earnings from footwear exports over the same period were $60 million, an increase of almost 30%.

The country’s commence minister, Tofail Ahmed, said at the start of Leathertech Bangladesh 2016 that the government is preparing to impose a target of $5 billion export earnings target on the leather industry in 2021.
