China property boom boosts furniture

China’s economy grew by 6.7% in the third quarter of 2016, according to official statistics.

Reports said government spending, bank lending and the property market were the main reasons for the growth.

News agency Reuters said furniture was one of the sectors to have grown strongly as a result of a housing boom; it said a high-flying property market now accounts for around 15% of China’s gross domestic product.

It added that property sales in September registered year-on-year growth of 34%, aided by ongoing migration of people from rural areas to major cities.
