Leather Pipeline: industry speeds towards two-tier market
18/10/2016
What this means is that, while demand for high-quality hides and high-end finished leather remains strong, material at the lower end of the quality range (hides and leather) is struggling to make the same impression on buyers. Buyers at the lower end are using more and more synthetic materials as a substitute for leather and many appear reluctant to come back.
Therefore, according to the Leather Pipeline report, it’s becoming more and more difficult to regard hide trading or the marketing of finished leather as a single segment.
Furthermore, the report, which can be read in full in our Market Info section, insists that the speed at which the leather market is fragmenting into these two distinct tiers is increasing.
