Australian hide stamping system presented at USHSLA convention

Hide traceability expert, Joe Gibson, travelled from Australia to share information about the Gibson Bass Stamper with almost 100 delegates at the 2016 USHSLA Annual Meeting and Convention in Chicago at the end of September.

With hide traceability growing in importance, the developers of the machine, Joe Gibson and Richard Bass, believe they are in a good position to help tanners.

The machine uses a set of cutters to stamp seven-segment numbers, letters or codes onto hides. The cutters go through the hide, making it possible to create a traceability system for splits too. It launched in 2001 and has now been incorporated into tanning operations in North America, Africa, Europe and Australia.
