Tea for two in unusual JM Weston joint project

Weston chief executive, Thierry Oriez, said on presenting the teapot that the original idea had come from Bernardaud, saying the porcelain producer had “dreamt” of using a leather handle. For it to turn to Weston was natural enough since both luxury companies operate in the Limousin region of France.
The leather comes from the Bastin tannery in Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, 25 kilometres east of Limoges. The tannery was founded in 1806 but was acquired by JM Weston in 1981.
Chief executive of the porcelain company, Frédéric Bernardaud, said in his comments that that idea behind the Cabas teapot was not simply to come up with something unusual, but to combine the abilities of both companies to make something useful and beautiful. “Having Weston involved adds a little bit of extra magic to the object,” he said.
