23/09/2016
Following news of a fall of 20% in volume and of 22% in value for shipments of shoes, the Chinese leather sector has unveiled disappointing export performance figures for the first seven months of 2016 in other product categories too.

Between January and July 2016, Chinese shoe manufacturers exported just under 395 million pairs of leather footwear, compared to 493 million pairs over the same period in 2015. Export revenues from these volumes were $5.5 billion in 2016 and just over $7 billion in 2015, giving an average price per pair in the January-July period this year of $13.92, compared to $14.20 for the same months in 2015.

Chinese manufacturers also exported just under 3.4 million leather garments over the seven-month period, bringing in revenues of $148.1 million. These figures represent a decline of 22.7% in volume and of 23.4% in value.

For leather gloves, manufacturers registered exports of 18.2 million pairs in the January-July period this year, bringing in revenues of $388 million. Leather glove exports, therefore, fell by 25% in volume and by 24.8% in value.
