Sukarne says China can look to Mexico for wet blue and crust

Mexican packer and tanning group Sukarne will take part in the 2016 All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai (August 31-September 2).

The company has a network of five slaughterhouses across Mexico with a combined capacity to produce more than 1.5 million hides per year. In addition, it runs a tanning subsidiary called SuKuero, which produces wet blue and crust; it has been active in the leather industry for more than 40 years and runs a hide distribution centre in León.

In the build-up to the exhibition, hide and leather division manager, Ángeles Mendoza, said: “We regard the All China Leather Exhibition as the centre of the Chinese leather business and our participation is consistent with our strategic vision to be a global player in the leather business.”

She said she and her colleagues will hold meetings in Shanghai with “various Chinese companies” to discuss with them the prospect of turning to Mexico as “a cost-effective sourcing option”. Ms Mendoza explained: “We have the ability to offer a consistent supply of wet blue, either full substance or grain, in addition to crust.”
