Growth for Volkswagen in the first half

02/08/2016
Following early reports of first-half growth of 5.6% year on year for automotive brand Audi, its parent group, Volkswagen, has reported a relatively strong performance in the January-June period, in spite of what the group has referred to as “significant events”. Volkswagen was hit by an emissions scandal involving its diesel cars in 2015.

Across the whole of the group, customers took delivery of just over 5.1 million cars in the first six months of this year. This represents growth of 1.5% compared to the same period in 2015, before the scandal emerged.

Sales of Volkswagen passenger cars held up well globally, almost flat at 2.9 million units. Other brands to perform well were Skoda, with sales of almost 570,000 vehicles and growth of 4.6%, and Porsche, with sales of just under 118,000 cars in the six-month period and growth of 3.5%.
