Colombia: truckers’ strike ends, but leather sector has suffered

25/07/2016
Transport industry workers in Colombia have agreed new terms with the government and have ended a strike that lasted for 45 days.

Tanners and finished leather product manufacturers are among those who have complained of being hard hit by the strike because of the difficulty they have had in securing raw material and in shipping their own production.

Raw material was already in short supply in Colombia and leading leather industry figures there have said a shortage of hides is one of the reasons for a downturn of 23% year on year in the industry’s revenues in the first four months of 2016.
